Ken Saatjian grew up within a family of multi-talented artists. His
father sang opera in several languages. His mother, also an accomplished singer,
accompanied Ken's father on the piano. His mother was also an artist, painting
in oils and watercolors. It was no surprise when Ken took an early interest in
the arts. At a young age, Ken enjoyed playing musical instruments and drawing
sketches. Ken now plays a variety of string and woodwind instruments with
various local groups.
While attending college, Ken focused on the arts and became involved in jewelry
design. He began his jewelry career as a silversmith in California.
After moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1979, Ken trained as an apprentice goldsmith.
He learned the craft from a few accomplished master goldsmiths. In addition to
learning the craft of jewelry construction, Ken furthered his expertise in
jewelry through studies at the Gemological Institute of America. He received a
GIA certificate in jewelry design and become a GIA Graduate Gemologist.
From 1984 to 1994, Ken worked as a jewelry designer in a prominent designer
jewelry gallery in Newport Beach, California. During this time, Ken had the
opportunity to become friends with many of the nation’s leading fine jewelry designers and gemstone dealers.d
Finally, in 1994, after years of hard work and planning, Ken’s dream of starting
his own jewelry studio became a reality. The Saatjian family moved to Bozeman to
plan the construction of their own jewelry studio in the new Oakwood Square
Shopping Complex. After months of exhausting work, their studio of fine designer
jewelry, Jewelry Studio, opened in beautiful Bozeman, Montana. After 14
successful years in Bozeman, Jewelry Studio had outgrown its original location
and needed a much larger home to accommodate its ever-expanding list of
exclusive designers and growing inventory. A much larger workshop was also
needed to allow room for son, Charles Saatjian, a GIA graduate, to join the
family business. In 2008, Jewelry Studio doubled in size plus broadened its inventory and
services when it relocated to a historic downtown building. The elegant new
location is an eclectic and sophisticated mix of modern and vintage, gracefully
blending contemporary custom-made cases with the charm of the building’s
original rustic brick walls, elaborate crown molding and eye-catching tin
ceiling. Jewelry Studio’s move, expansion and make-over were all favorably
welcomed by devoted clients, Bozeman’s Downtown, and many new discerning lovers
of fine jewelry. Now more than ever…
