"I strive for simplicity of design and
a clean, pure line. From the initial concept I strip away elements
to arrive at the design's purest form."

"I Strive for simplicity of design and a clean,
pure line. From the initial concept I strip away elements to arrive
at the design's purest form. This philosophy is the backbone
of my work."
In 1991, William Richey, his wife Marlene, and
their two daughters left their hometown of Seattle, Washington
for a cross-country relocation to Camden, Maine. Ten years later
They made a final move to Portland, Maine where they set up their
studio in the picturesque Arts District of this historic port.
William Richey designs are strongly influenced by
architectural detail and sculptural forms. Richey trained in sculpture
and painting at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington,
where he received a BA in art and one in psychology.
Richey has won numerous design awards, including seven American
Gem Trade Association's Spectrum Awards for excellence in
creating jewelry with colored stones and seven DeBeers Diamonds
of Distinction awards during his twenty years in the jewelry business.
In 2000, Richey was chosen by his design peers in the Contemporary
Design Group as "Most Valuable Player."
Every piece of jewelry is individually produced
in his studio. His entire family is now actively involved in William
Richey Designs, and each takes great pride in the exceptional
quality of their craftsmanship, materials, designs and unparalleled
customer service. The Richey family strives to integrate the best
of old world craftsmanship with cutting-edge, contemporary designs.
